  • A "Fall Out of Your Chair" Moment

The biggest surprise in August... was winning $100 prepaid visa card from Sprite Bring Home The Green instant win game.

Yay for online back-to-school shopping spree! And the funny part is, I got those Sprite cap codes from the temple in Orlando, Florida while there for the BLIA YAD Buddhist Youth Group regional conference earlier in the month. Oh thank Buddha?

But nonetheless, I definitely did not believe I had won. Because, I never win at these instant win games. Or drawing/raffles either. Did I mention I opened around 10 boxes of Rice Krispies Treats 10-packs and didn't win anything at all? Even after they assured that almost everyone wins? Plus I entered 250 times online for a local radio contest for a pair of Taylor Swift concert tickets but didn't get it either?

Hence this definitely was a "fall out of your chair" moment, as my friend Meghan would call it.

Actually, more like a "sit and stare at the computer screen" moment.

I quickly printed out the claim page with the prepaid card information, with the fear of losing the page or of the page timing out.

And then it hit me... whoa, $100 is a lot of money to spend online. Where would I go? And what to spend it on?

After much calculation (cost + shipping), deal-hunting and strategizing (since prepaid cards are tricky in that you can't exceed the leftover balance when making multiple purchases), I used up almost the entire visa card online, with a remainder of 8 cents.

So what did I ultimately get with it? A bunch of clothes, a humongous seemingly bottomless blinding white hobo style handbag, a new set of colored sharpies and ballpoint pens. And to this day I still ponder over what other combination of items/orders I could have done.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. And utterly confused my mother when the UPS truck kept pulling up at our house for several weeks.

  • 25 Random Facts

    1. I have really bad memory, especially for things that aren't super important. For instance, I am horrible at remembering names. Once someone introduces themselves, I forget their name within 5 seconds. My bad memory is also why my calender is filled with writing and sticky notes fill my wall.

    2. When I was in elementary school my parents invited all my friends and threw me a birthday party. We had an Easter egg hunt amidst all the tall weeds. Not all the eggs were found, a few weeks later my dad ran over some while mowing the grass.

    3. I denied needing glasses for the longest time. But as my vision got worse it became harder to read the whiteboard and overheads in class. I hardly miss those days where I'd squint my eyes and slant my eyelids to make my vision clearer. It wasn't until 5th grade when we had eye exams that my parents found out how bad my vision actually was.

    4. The only time I ever got in trouble at school was 4th grade. This new kid was my friend, but no one else liked him. He was absent one day and when he came back, I told him how the other kids kept saying "I'm glad he's not here" the day before. He blurted it out to the teacher and I was told to come see her after school. I stayed, but I think the teacher forgot and I quietly slipped out of the classroom.

    5. My favorite show in middle school was Xena: Warrior Princess. Perhaps it was the mythical elements that drew me in? During that period, the show caused me to become fascinated with New Zealand. Thus, to this day when someone mentions New Zealand I automatically think of Xena.

    6. I loved to watch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and animated Batman on tv in elementary school. My favorite Power Ranger was the yellow one. What was her name again? Oh yes, and I love how at the end of every episode the Power Rangers combined their robots together to make one big machine to defeat the evil forces. Go go power rangers!

    7. I loved horses and dolphins in elementary and middle school. I would watch the show Flipper on tv every week and buy toy horses. I also bought Pony Pal books just for the collectible cards and bookmarks inside. And every month my parents would take me to Griffith Park to ride the ponies.

    8. I have always been, and remain today, the shy girl. Yes, I don't talk must to people I don't know well... but keep talking to me, I'll eventually find things to say back. Sadly, it takes awhile for me to come out of my shell.

    9. I never really watched live tv at home, my parents were against that. So I secretly recorded shows on vhs and watched it at night after my parents went to sleep.

    10. My parents didn't believe in fast internet connection for the longest time, it was not until last month that we finally got basic dsl at home. I still remember waiting online late at night, watching mp3 files slowing load... about 20-30 minutes for each one.

    11. I love having alone time once in awhile. These times are excellent for brainstorming and thinking in general.

    12. I strongly believe in karma, bad things you do to others will eventually come around and get you in the future. No joke. Like the time my sisters and I rode our bikes to Kohl's and got more change for our purchases than we were supposed to and kept it. Then on the ride home we realized our bike tires were deflating due to mysterious pineapple-like thorns stuck in them.

    13. I apparently walk weirdly. All the backs of my shoes are worn down, but with a 45 degree angle. So all my shoes end up looking slanted in the back. I probably have flat feet.

    14. From what I hear from my sister, when people talk to me while I'm sleeping I answer back without knowing it. But I never remember the conversation when I wake up. So telling me important things when I'm sleeping or half awake is never a good idea... and asking me yes or no questions is disastrous, I tend to agree to the most preposterous things.

    15. I still have faint scars on my left hand knuckles from accidentally punching the spiky wall of my house. I was playing handball, and went close to the wall to hit the ball so it would bounce back further. I missed the ball and punched the wall instead.

    16. This has become my favorite number. No reason why. Maybe because 4x4? No idea.

    17. My head contains tons of useless trivia. Every once in awhile I pull one out and tell people. It has become even worse now that I surf the internet more often.

    18. I dislike camping and hiking. My parents love it and we go on random camping and road trips. National parks annoy me too, i have gone on too many trips where to the sole purpose was to visit national parks. One year we even had an annual membership to California National Parks. And instead of getting a hotel room we pitch our tent for the night.

    19. I am horrible at telling stories. They always tend to have an anti-climatic ending.

    20. In general, I love anything Disney. It's just... so magical... and happy. =] I also love Disneyland! I miss my annual pass and the joy of going with different people for the sole sake of sharing their excitement and reactions to the park. I also miss Fantasmic and the fireworks.

    21. I love sunny days, they make me happy. Gloomy, cold, and rainy days make me depressed... and want to go back to bed and stay there for the rest of the day.

    22. I have been utterly addicted to Neopets since freshman year of college. I love building my own small empire on the site, from becoming a multi-millionaire to owning rare items and pets. Hopefully one day I'll get a chance to work/intern there.

    23. I have random spurt of creativity. Those are the only times I am artistically efficient. Remember those birthday cards? Those are one time deals, I don't know how to make another copy again.

    24. I had an obsession with Adidas Classic Superstar shoes in middle school and high school. I think I've gone through countless pairs of those shoes. Let's see... there was the orange stripes, gold stripes, pastel pink stripes, metallic silver ones, black with white stripes. There might be a few more I forgot. I was obsessed with keeping them clean, I would clean them with paper towels and water everyday after i got home.

    25. I love watching Veronica Mars. I own all three seasons on dvd. Whenever I go home from school and have no fast internet connection, I continuously watch them when I'm bored. I love how witty the show is! "A Saturn for a Mars. In Neptune! Yeah, the planets really aligned for this one. Now, move Uranus, the Mercury's rising."

  • "You act like a good girl, giving a party for something you don't support and pasting a fake smile on your face.  But I know you're really a bad girl.  You're like a dormant volcano... I can't wait to be around when you explode!"

A quote from 90210? Really? Guilty pleasure to the max. The finale was super dramatic and filled with crazy acting. But the ultimate breakdown during the last five minutes was *cue rock music with guitar riff*

In other news... Glee is surprisingly awesome. I'll be watching the pilot episode over and over again (thanks to free iTunes download) during summer until season 1 officially starts in September. *giddy dance*
